Analogue Rules

Over the past few weeks, in between my film shots, I have been posting a few iPhone photos from time to time. Since the apps I use try to mimic the look & feel of the Holga and Diana cameras I normally use, there may be some confusion over whether these uploads are film shots or not. In fact, recently someone contacted me about adding one of my photos to a Holga related blog only to realize later it was shot on an iPhone. So, from now on, I plan to only post photographs shot with my film cameras here on Blur Dot Blog. Since my mobile phone is always in my pocket I will continue to shoot photos with that camera so I have started a simple Tumblr blog for those shots.

The name of that blog is called Fonographs and it can be found here with the RSS feed here.

Thanks, Dave.

Vivian Maier Street Photography

Came across an interesting discussion on Flickr recently started by John Maloof.

I purchased a giant lot of negatives from a small auction house here in Chicago. It is the work of Vivian Maier, a French born photographer who recently past away in April of 2009 in Chicago, where she resided... have a ton of her work (about 30-40,000 negatives) which ranges in dates from the 1950's-1970's.

John has started posting these photographs to a blog http://vivianmaier.blogspot.com/ and is looking to exhibit the work.

It is well worth the time to go through what has been posted so far and I look forward to seeing more.

Photo Blog Round Up

Some things going on in other photography blogs I subscribe to.

wip : work in progress

While surfing the web today, I came across a link to "wip", a PDF format photography magazine. wip

The included photographs are not necessarily part of a completed series but are "works in progress" hence the name of the magazine.

The first 4 issues that can be downloaded from the wip website and they contain some great inspiring pieces of work.

Holga Inspire

There is a new website from the people who brought you the famous Holga camera called Holga Inspire. According to the website,

The mission of Holga Inspire is to support creative artists and professional photographers who use the Holga as their medium of creative expression.

To this end, the website features work from photographers such as David Burnett and Michelle Bates.

For a lot of people, who made the Holga was a bit of a mystery, some people even thinking that the Lomographic Society created it. It's nice to now see the company getting it's own face on the web.

Need to buy some film or toy cameras?

Toycamera.com Store If you need to buy toy cameras or film, pay a visit to toycamera.com which has recently joined the B&H Photo affiliate program. This means that the site will get a small commission from the online photography retailer on orders made through links on the toycamera.com store page.

These commissions will help the owners of the site allocate more resources to the upkeep of web site which has become one of the best destinations for all things in the low fidelity photography arena.

If there is something you would like to see in the store that is not there now, add the link in the Store Requests thread in the Toycamera.com forums.
